Riding Lessons

There’s no connection like the one you will make with a horse. We are here to help young people to adults learn to ride and care for horses, and experience the unique bond between horses and humans.

Our programs are founded on a belief that a rider develops best when they are taught in an environment where they receive a great deal of personalized attention and the exercises can be customized to their skill development and goals. As such, we offer lessons in a private and semi-private setting to maximize the coaching they each receive.

We are proud to offer Ontario Equestrian’s “Learn to Ride” Level 1 through 8 Prep program and testing. We encourage our students to participate in this wonderful educational program.

Our coaches ensure both parents and riders get regular feedback on progress of each student. Riders may also chose to participate in clinics, camp, horse shows, and other events if they desire to.

The SJE Riding Academy provides all levels of riders the opportunity to learn, grow, and excel in a fun and safe environment.

Riding Academy program information is listed below.

The year is divided into 4 semesters. For more information, please see below.

*All lessons taught by fully insured, Equestrian Canada trained Instructors and Coaches, with emphasis on sound basics of equitation and good horsemanship.

REGULAR RIDING LESSONS

How it works:

  • If you are a beginner and new to horseback riding, then the best place to start is with one of our well designed programs. We will teach you everything you need to know about how to ride and tack up your horse

Lessons by Semester:

Our year is divided into 4 semesters:

  • Winter (January – February)
  • Spring (March – June)
  • Summer (July – August)
  • Fall (September – December)
  • Commitment is required for the semester

***All riding academy lessons are facilitated by our excellent team of insured and certified Instructors and Coaches.***

Regular riding lessons include 4 lessons per month.

ON YOUR LESSON DAY

  • Please review our Welcome package prior to arrival
  • For all riding lessons, please arrive approximately 30 minutes prior to prepare (grooming, tacking, etc.)
  • Proper footwear is required in the barn for everyone (participants, parents, siblings, friends)
  • All riders must have a boot or shoe with a small heel, an ASTM certified helment, gloves, long pants or breeches
  • For Munchkins & Minis programs, children must have a helmet (a bike helmet is acceptable), clothes that can get dirty, and boots

Private and semi-private lessons require that all riders can safely lead, groom, and tack up their own horse. Extra lessons can be booked to teach you about grooming and/or tacking. Beginner lessons may include time to learn these skills, until participants are comfortable doing so on their own. This may mean less riding time until participants are capable of readying their mounts on their own.

Equipment Requirements:

  • Proper footwear is required in the barn for everyone (participants, parents, siblings, friends)
  • All riders must have a boot or shoe with a small heel, an ASTM certified helmet, gloves, and long pants or breeches
  • For Munchkins & Minis programs, children must have a helmet (a bike helmet is acceptable), clothes that can get dirty, and boots.

CANCELLATION POLICY

SJE has limited availability for lessons in order to accommodate each of our riders and ensure the proper care of our horses. Many of our lessons slots are booked months in advance. For this reason, we request that you cancel at least 24-hours before your scheduled lesson if you are unable to attend. This will allow us to offer your spot to another student. You may contact us between the hours of 8 AM to 8 PM to cancel.

There are no refunds or makeup lessons offered for cancellations.

Thank you for your understanding.
